Carpet Cleaning Essentials – New Baby, New Puppy

Posted in: Carpet Cleaning
Tags: carpet cleaning, flood damage, san diego, water damage

Are you expecting a new little one in your home? Whether new baby or puppy, both bring plenty of joy to the family along with a lot of messes to the nice, neat orderly space you’ve created prior to their arrival.

From spit up to spilled bottles and leaky diapers, our bouncing bundles of joy can easily cause all manner of stains on our clothing, furniture and carpets. Once they are up and toddling around playing with crayons and finger paints even our walls can’t hide from the artistic renderings of children or our floors stay shielded from melted wax and paint drippings splayed on them by little hands.

And if you’re considering a new puppy, their cute little faces and playful prancing around the home can quickly challenge your endearment when carpeting meets up with their potty accidents because they didn’t make it outside in time. Not to mention those little tidbits of treats they so fondly hide in nooks and crannies for us to discover months later – a moldy mess now growing on our carpets.

So if the challenges of keeping your carpets clean with new babies or puppies at home are keeping you on your toes, why not consider these essentials to keep messy stains at bay?

Deep Cleaning Carpet Services
Dust, dirt and bacteria lurk everywhere little pups roll and run, and carpeting can bear the brunt of holding all the smells they bring in from outdoors. Babies crawling on the floor especially need clean carpets to prevent health and breathing issues. Keeping carpets free of debris and stains means scheduling regular deep cleanings. Professional carpet cleaning helps bring carpets back to life so they retain their beauty and keeps older carpeting looking new. Carpet cleaning services can get rid of spots and stains that typical store bought sprays cannot while also maintaining their soft comfort for the whole family to enjoy.

Regular Cleaning and Vacuuming
In between deep carpet cleaning services make sure to vacuum carpets and floors frequently. Whenever you find a spot or spill, clean it up immediately and then treat with a pre-spray to prevent staining. This is especially important in high traffic areas of the home so that the carpet stays looking fresh and clean longer.

Use Area Rugs
For those areas where babies and puppies play, put down an area rug to help protect your carpeting from spills and accidents. Area rugs are easy to clean, provide an extra layer of protection for your home’s carpeting and can also add a decorative touch to complement your décor. Having a special area for small ones to play and eat can make clean up easier when accidents do happen.

Superior Restoration is here to help you keep your carpets clean and looking good for many years of enjoyment. To learn more about full service carpet cleaning in San Diego as well as our water damage restoration services, please call (760) 434-4555.

Mold in your house? Symptoms of mold exposure

Posted in: Mold remediation
Tags: mold damage, mold remediation, mold repair, san diego

Mold in the home can be hard to detect. Often the first signs of a growing mold problem on your property are the presence of one or more of a plethora of health symptoms. If you or your family have been experiencing persistent or unexplainable health problems, there is a chance that mold could be the culprit. If the presence of mold is established, take action as quickly as possible. Free yourself and your family from the mold-induced symptoms through mold remediation in San Diego.
Home in need of mold remediationOne of the most common symptoms typically traced back to mold, is sinus problems. This is due to the very nature of mold. As it grows, so do the spores, which are microscopic pieces of mold that can spread through air vents, into walls and fall from ceilings and attics. You’ll never be able to see these with the naked eye, but you, or members of your family, can definitely feel the effects in your own respiratory and sinus system. This is especially important to keep in mind for the younger or older generations living in your home, as their immune systems are more vulnerable. The trouble with mold symptoms is that they’re often not traced back to the cause. In this case, the symptoms — such as persistent colds or repetitively coming down with a particularly nasty flu — can start to take their physical, psychological and financial toll.
Other beginning-stage mold symptoms include things like coughing, headaches, itchy skin, sneezing and irritation to the eyes. While not life-threatening, these problems may interfere with work or school and over time take a toll on your wallet at the local pharmacy. Has there been a leak in your home recently, which was not properly dealt with? One telltale sign of mold is a musty smell, often present in any areas that can become damp. This includes places like laundry rooms, bathrooms (especially around showers) and in cooking areas. Many times, however, mold can grow in unseen areas and the only telltale warning is health issues. Do not attempt to do your own mold remediation in San Diego; you can further expose yourself to the health-altering mold spores and potentially exacerbate problems.
Beginning-stage mold symptoms, if left alone, can lead to major health problems. For those with allergies, any mold symptoms have the potential to be that much more powerful and problematic. Young children and elderly are often acutely affected by the presence of mold in the home. Chronic bronchitis, hair loss, skin rashes, ear infections, swollen glands and pain in the joints have all been linked to home mold problems. In very extreme cases, long term memory loss, cancer and death have been reported. If left ignored, mold can be fatal to residents. San Diego mold remediation provided by Superior Restoration can erase these problems and let you get back to living and enjoying your home.
If you feel there is any chance that there may be a source of mold growth in your home, it is recommended to consult with experts. Superior Restoration delivers mold remediation in San Diego, southern Orange County and Riverside County. Our experienced specialists provide an effective and efficient way to get rid of mold and the health issues it can cause. Contact us today!

Water Extraction Tips: Can Your Carpet Be Saved?

Posted in: Carpet Cleaning
Tags: carpet cleaning, flood damage, san diego, water damage

For San Diego property owners, a flood in the home or business is almost never expected, nor welcomed. Worse is the thought of damage, and especially costs. Who has the time and money on hand to replace furniture, belongings, dry wall, and perhaps the most headache-inducing: expensive carpeting? However, if you follow some simple tips, you may be able to salvage the carpeting. We’re experts in carpet cleaning in San Diego and, yes, there is hope after flood.

So, you have water everywhere, including a soaked carpeting; here’s where to start:

  1. It should go without saying, but make sure to follow all safety protocols before attempting to save your carpeting. Be very cautious. Turn off water sources. Turn off electricity. While taking these necessary steps, avoid walking on the carpet as much as possible.
  2. Assess the situation. Is the area affected small or large? Consider immediately enlisting flood damage experts, specialists in carpeting cleaning in San Diego, or at least neighbors and friends to help with the process.
  3. Move all furniture and belongings out of the area. Remove any wet items that you can, including rugs. Getting these items dry in a separate area should also be a priority, but especially get them up and out from on the wet carpeting, as they will block optimal drying abilities.
  4. Try soaking up the water with towels, as much as you can to remove excess water. This is an integral step if you want to salvage your carpeting; the longer you allow water to sit, the more it will possibly seep into floorboards and walls.
  5. Do not use colored towels for soaking up the water, or at least be very careful, as they have a tendency to bleed onto the carpeting. If you want your current carpet to return to a similar state after the flood, avoid towels with dyes that can potentially stain.
  6. Open all windows and doors for ventilation. This will help speed up the drying process. If you can get your hands on any fans, and it is safe to plug in electronics, aim them towards the affected area.
  7. Use a carpet cleaner or wet vacuum on a reverse setting in order to extract the flood water. Steam cleaning equipment could also be used.
  8. Do not use your regular vacuum. For any kind of larger area of flooded carpeting, consider enlisting professionals like Superior Restoration; we specialize in carpet cleaning in San Diego.
  9. Water extraction can take from a few hours to multiple days. Be prepared to go slowly and be thorough with the process. Ultimately, this will be the key to successfully preserving your carpets and rugs. Go slow with the water extraction and then invest in carpet cleaning in San Diego, it will be cheaper than replacing and installing entirely new flooring.
  10. Keep in mind, it is easy to get overwhelmed. It can be stressful, tedious and sometimes, you may discover further damage or flooding, days into attempting repairs. It is never too late to call experts. Flood remediation and companies like Superior Restoration have many years of experience in all kinds of flood-related and carpeting-related situations. Letting them help can actually save you time and money by avoiding further complications down the road.

10 Health Risks Due To Mold

Posted in: Mold remediation
Tags: mold damage, mold remediation, mold repair, san diego

Mold poses a problem for San Diego home and business owners due to the fact it can be so easily ignored or even missed completely. Mold can hide in the most unexpected places in a building or structure and it nearly always takes experts in San Diego mold removal to insure the problem is remediated. For many people the first sign of a mold problem is a health-related issue due to the difficulty of actually seeing evidence of mold in your home or business during day-to-day operations. Have you recently found out about the presence of mold and are wondering, what’s the big deal? Health problems attributed to the presence of mold are well documented and range from the merely aggravating to life-threatening, especially for children and older adults. Read on for ten examples of common health complications due to mold:

Allergic Reactions

The presence of mold can aggravate allergies, and even give birth to new allergic reactions. These have a wide range of symptoms, depending on the person, but are definitely something that can be alleviated with San Diego mold removal. Having an expert team assess and eradicate mold in the environment will help reduce allergic reactions.

Arthralgia

Arthralgia is classified as pain in the joints without noticeable swelling. This is one of the more serious complications/symptoms of toxic mold exposure. Arthralgia has been linked with black toxic mold, which often grows following a home flood, pipe leak or in basements, where conditions are not always dry.

Asthma Attacks

Asthma, like allergies, is also effected very easily by mold growing in the home or work environment. Asthma attacks can be life-threatening, depending on their severity. Sudden asthmatic problems or the worsening of asthma conditions can be attributed to mold and is usually one of the first health symptoms occupants experience. Especially for business owners or landlords, mold remediation costs can be low-priced and low stress in the long-term. Compare these costs to dealing with an asthma-related lawsuit due to a negligent attitude towards the presence of mold on your property.

Colds & Flu

These can be more of an annoyance due to mold, and a very persistent one at that. Have you and your family generally been healthy individuals? Suddenly, have you experienced a subsequent string of inexplicable instances of colds or the flu? These are telltale signs that you may have mold growing in your living environment. As long as mold is present, falling ill with the flu or constant colds is extremely common. For the most part, this is not life-threatening but can lead to increased and unnecessary health costs, missed participation in life events and for young child and older adults, more serious problems.

Respiratory Complications

An entire slew of respiratory complications can result from mold in the home, school, business or office. This can easily be avoided with San Diego mold removal. Act now, before the mold has adversely effect your health, your wallet and your family’s well being.

Skin Rash

Mold ruins insulation, and eats through wood, furniture and clothing. But it also contaminates your environment with microscopic spores, unseen to the naked eye. Inevitably, your skin is exposed and some people may experience a rash. A sudden unexplained rash, similar to the cold symptoms mentioned above, could be caused by mold.

Eye Irritation

Eye irritation from mold follows in the same vein as skin rashes caused by mold. Spores and microscopic particles can travel through vents, air, furniture, and surround you, your family, your coworkers and/or your customers.

Nose Bleed

Water damage can lead to mold which can cause nose bleeds. If you or someone you live with has begun to experience more frequent nose bleeds, look into the possibility of an environmental cause, specifically mold. Indoor mold can colonize in vents, walls, just about everywhere. One of the effects it can have on humans is producing an organic chemical reaction, in this case nosebleeds.

Immunity Compromising

Including all the previously mentioned health risks due to mold, there are many more health complications that have been attributed to mold. These are especially risky to those populations with already fragile immune systems, such as children and elderly. In extreme cases, where mold is ignored, it has resulted in death. Mold can exasperate a wide range of other illnesses. It is for this and the above risks, if you suspect any health issues are being caused by mold, do not wait to get an expert opinion. For those wishing to avoid these problems, San Diego mold removal can be pain free, stress free and leave you mold free in no time. Don’t wait until you are sick; be proactive today!

When to Call a Mold Remediation Expert in San Diego

Posted in: Mold remediation
Tags: mold damage, mold remediation, mold repair, san diego

One of the last words any homeowner wants to hear in describing their house is “mold.” This pesky problem can be more common than you think. And according to the EPA, 100% of mold types have the potential to cause negative health effects. So, as a homeowner, when should you call experts for mold remediation in San Diego?

Most mold is caused by ongoing water intrusion of some kind. This can be simple things such as plumbing issues, faulty landscaping, rain gutters not diverting correctly or the common roof leak. Many of these examples do not seem like a big deal at the time but with a continued presence in and around your home, they become a hotbed for mold growth.

At this stage, hidden mold growth can occur. It’s one thing to see the mold that is growing on a fence on the exterior of your house. But when mold has begun to seep into the infrastructure, that is when a team like Superior Restoration that specializes in mold remediation in San Diego is recommended.

Where does mold grow? In less-than-ideal environments, where water intrusion happens nonstop and/or regularly, mold can infuse its way into hidden areas of your home. It will grow inside walls. It will make its way into air ducts. Mold will make framing and structural materials weaker and potentially hazardous to your health. As a first step, top restoration teams identify and document all cases of mold present in the interior and exterior of your property. The top priority? Identifying and preventing further spread of mold spores through mold remediation steps.

The best time to call for mold remediation in San Diego is the first time you discover any type of mold in your property and/or whenever you experience a flood. Prevention is always preferred; as they say, the best offense is a strong defense. Being proactive against initial mold infestation will save you time, money and negative health effects. If there has nonetheless been mold identified in your house or building, immediate action should be taken. Putting off action is not recommended as this will only exacerbate health issues and/or structural deterioration. Mold growth can cause asthma problems and allergic reactions. If ignored, property owners can face potential legal action from any affected parties.

You’ll be amazed at what quality mold remediation in your home can do for your and your family’s health. Air quality is greatly improved with the eradication of mold from living areas. If you have experienced sinus issues, asthma flare-ups, respiratory tract infections, even itchy nose and eyes, it could be due to mold spores present in your environment. There is sometimes even a musty smell present. If these symptoms are recent, or even semi-recent, and unexplained, you may have a mold situation and should look into remediation immediately.

Getting expert mold remediation in San Diego has never been easier than it is presently with Superior Restoration. It only takes one phone call. We promise quality service and results at affordable prices. Don’t neglect your growing mold problem any longer — contact us today.

Posted in: Water damage repair

Water damage, as the result of a flood, can cause massive amounts of damage to your home or business. In the aftermath of a flood, emotions run high. Having a plan of action to turn to if/when this unfortunate situation presents itself can prove to be extremely valuable. Staying calm can save you from extra damage and further stress. Always keep in mind, there are experts in flood damage repair in San Diego here to help. Here is a list of ten critical actions to take in the face of a flood to your property:

  1. Stop the source of the water, if possible. Be very careful of electricity around any area of flooding. Establish barriers, shut off the water source or use any other available methods of water stoppage. Prevent any more water from entering the home/building using boards, mats, sand bags, etc.
  2. Once it is safe to do so, turn off electricity. Be extremely cautious in wet areas. It is best to wait for a professional to evaluate this situation, but if it is safe, get your electricity shut off immediately.
  3. Call for help. Preferably reach out to flood damage repair specialists, such as Superior Restoration, but you’ll probably also need help salvaging belongings and valuables. Water moves quick and is very destructive, so call neighbors, friends, or family to help you.
  4. Take notes and pictures of everything related to the flood. Keeping extensive documentation can be valuable for submitting a claim to your insurance provider.
  5. Moving furniture quickly is essential to preventing mildew or mold growth. While being careful to avoid walking excessively on any wet carpet, get equipment, personal items and furniture away from moisture. If moving furniture is impossible, try to place aluminum foil between the floor and the legs. This can help prevent and/or minimize furniture stains or rust from setting in.
  6. Having a professional crew on hand to move salvageable furniture to a dry area or a storage unit will be helpful. Flood experts can also be of service, as they will know what is worth saving, and what pieces could be hazardous.
  7. Extract all water as soon as possible. For flood damage repair in San Diego, Superior Restoration is a leader in getting your property dried out quickly, by professionally extracting all water from carpets, drywall and other components.
  8. Depending on how extensive the water damage or flooding is, it may be best to leave for a short period of time. It is better to avoid any health related issues or injuries, than to risk otherwise. Trust the professionals in flood damage repair in San Diego to take prudence in handling the issue, and know what is best during the process of restoration.
  9. Contact your insurance company to begin the claims process.
  10. Repairs, to carpeting, drywall, pipes, etc. may need to be discussed and planned. Be proactive against mold contamination and be sure to follow recommendations to avoiding repeated flood damage repair in San Diego.

Keeping a level head during this stressful time can save you a surprising number of headaches down the line. Be thorough in the process in order to get the best outcome with your insurance and in terms of damage containment. With nearly 20 years of experience, Superior Restoration is here to help with all flood damage repair in San Diego. Don’t hesitate to contact our team and let us help you cover all your bases.
